  • Alcohol oxidizes when it gets into the human system; this process occurs at the rate of an ounce in two or three hours. For 100-proof whisky, which is up to fifty per cent alcohol, this would mean that 8 ounces of whisky would be gone from the body in less than 12 hours; most of the alcohol would be breathed away, but some of it would be lost through sweat or urine.
  • A mere 1-2 servings of alcohol can cause any individual to be over the "legal limit" of alcohol, meaning they would be arrested for a DUI, even if they do not feel or appear to be drunk.
  • Alcohol is the world's third largest risk factor for disease burden; it is the leading risk factor in the Western Pacific and the Americas and the second largest in Europe.
  • Alcohol increases estrogen levels. Birth control pills or other medicine with estrogen increase intoxication.
