- Many chronic drinkers have difficulty sleeping and spend less time in the important phase known as REM (rapid eye movement).
- Alcohol abuse severely suppresses the immune system, which helps protect the body from infections. Patients addicted to alcohol are more susceptible to infections such as tuberculosis, pneumonia, bacterial infections, or HIV/AIDS.
- Studies have shown that alcohol beverage warning labels have increased awareness of the risks involved with alcohol consumption during pregnancy. Over time however, the alcohol warning labels have become commonplace, with the message often being overlooked.
